All of our decorative tiles can be made with matching field tile.
Our tiles are suitable for interior, exterior, wall, and floor installations where freezing is not an issue. Our revival tiles preserve the designs and feel of Batchelder, but are fired at a higher temperature, creating a more durable, wear-resistant tile. She works with all types of media and in many genres, using warms blends of color. After visiting New York City, Martine moved back to Rochester and began her career as a self-taught artist. In addition to our custom carvings and field tile, we offer a beautiful collection of Batchelder Revivals, all hand-made and slipcast from molds taken from original Batchelder relief tiles. We often spend several days carving the bas-relief as the texture of the clay changes allowing for increasing levels of detail.

We begin by creating a full scale drawing of the frieze to be carved, then transfer the art to moist clay. The glaze is applied by hand in a manner that accentuates the relief and lets the clay body show through. Our custom carved tiles are fired 2 to 3 times over 2150 degrees F. The chose this as their venue because it was over the top with the decor but had. I resumed my passion for painting about 10 years ago, at the suggestion of a friend, starting with alcohol inks and watercolor, and most recently I have fallen in love with creating digitally on an iPad, often merging digital creations with IRL (in real life) mediums, like gold foil, and collaged materials.Pasadena was the center of the Arts and Crafts Movement in California. As a painter and illustrator, I have loved sketching and drawing since I was a child but fell away from it as I got into my career as a hair stylist. That is pure bliss! As for my furnishings and epoxy resin art, I love to take an object, whether it be new or found, even discarded, and transform it into something uniquely beautiful, even functional. Being in that creative zone, where time does not exist, and you are totally immersed in the present moment. The Artisan Works is a very unusual place, and Im not really sure of what to call it.
